Don’t feel bad about wanting more money.

It won’t come to you unless you call for it.

Conflict, incongruence, and cognitive dissonance about your relationship with money will effectively prevent you from harnessing its power.

How it all started

Growing up, your subconscious mind absorbed messages that said:

You shouldn’t be money-hungry. Money is not the end goal. Money can’t buy happiness. Money changes people and can make them do crazy things. Mo’ money, mo problems,” and the like.

It’s possible that this affected you on a soul-level without you realizing it. A seed was planted that prevents you from the full-throttle pursuit of money. You may be able to half-pursue it, but not with the full ambition, passion, and excitement that you’ve seen others tap into. This is because the eager pursuit of money has been stifled with guilt and shame. Guilt and shame are the all-star hindrances of personal creativity. Being worried about what your desires “say about you” might make you feel dissuaded from ever muttering your real desires out loud.

If you decide to stop reading this article at this point, the main takeaways I want to burn into your mind is:

It’s not bad to want money.

It’s not bad to pursue money.

You aren’t shallow.

The thing is: If you have “low desires” right now, that's okay

Let me explain what I mean.

Life is a layered pyramid with thresholds through which you can continually level-up. One of the most popular depictions of this philosophy is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

As you elevate across phases and stages, your desires and dreams will enlighten in a way that mirrors your ascension.

This means if you have a strong drive for money right now, it’s probably because your thirst for security and stability aren’t fully quenched. Stability in your finances and resources fosters a cellular calmness, as the survival instinct can finally go to rest, freeing up space for creativity to brew. It isn’t until you can fully release the burden of financial insecurity (or the fear of falling into financial insecurity) that your spirit will be able to dream about other things.

This is normal. And it’s nothing to be ashamed of. It just means that your brain is working as expected.

Generally speaking, your morality is not in question for wanting money, as money is simply a metaphor for value-based energy. It’s something that the world has agreed to hold in high regard. It’s the thing that humans as a species have agreed to let be the organizing factor of reality.

It’s what bought you new school clothes as a kid.

It’s what your parents were always out of the house trying to make.

It’s what lets you have a car, sleep in a bed, and eat food.

If you grew up in a reality that showed you that you need money, why were you also told that money shouldn’t linger at the front of your thoughts?

Here’s a hint. The “money is bad” ideology is a limiting belief swimming exclusively among the middle and lower classes. People who make a lot of money like money, and are usually happy to talk about it. Money is party talk, a bonding agent, a hobby, a lifestyle, and a game, all rolled into one for people who embrace it.

Remember that money is neutral. It’s that people decide to leverage it in particular (and sometimes immoral) ways.

Release the tension. Let money in.

You don’t want to continue your internal fight against money.

Accept this as permission to release the conflict. Use this opportunity to say what you’ve been feeling while keeping your head above water:

“I want money.”

Release this truth out into the universe. Understand that you are not morally flawed for wanting to join in the large-scale game that is money-making.

Like energy, money flows in different directions. It flows and it goes according to who is influencing it. The same way you can learn to control your inner flow of energy, you learn to control the external flow of money. Master the movement inside, and you will be given an intuitive key that shows you how money really works.
