10 Personal Growth Books, 1 Concept

I read 10 personal growth books and they all said the same thing. There was an underlying thread that connected all of them.

And if absorbed, it will make you succeed beyond your dreams.

Life is based on simple equations. Algorithms, laws and truths. The negative side of this is that people emotions, egos, and unregulated impulses prevents them from approaching the world/reality with this pragmatic frame of mind.

The positive side of the life as an equation model, is that if you digest and absorb the true, real simplicities of the world and let a few simple principles govern your life in a real way, you are guaranteed success.

The vast majority of people can’t do it.

Overloaded and overstimulated

Lots of folks get distracted. Or our minds have become so overrun with complexities, dualities, background thoughts, situations and scenarios that are not our own, we’re trying to hold way too much. Way too many references, and too much content.

There is a solution that will still allow us to thrive in this busy world. People do it everyday. Here is something that I noticed from reading 10 personal development books over the past few months, and from studying wildly successful people.

The Solution

Sound and deeply understood personal philosophies. This is everything. It is the blueprint that guides every subsequent behavior that you let unfold while on this planet.

These are the mental beliefs that underpin your actions

— Steven Bartlett

Just like a business, you need a mission statement. We need concrete guiding principles to govern our lives, and I think we need to create them ourselves.

The process alone of undergoing an investigation and deliberation as to “what do I stand for?” is everything. Because it forces you to slow down and think, “what do I actually want to be the undertone of my life?”

What are your core values? Myself and my soul is the business, so what are my core values? I’ll share mine with you:

  1. Bring your humanity with you in every room

  2. gain knowledge everyday

  3. celebrate others

  4. communicate with clarity

These are things that I really care about in regard to my personal pursuit of “success.”

it feels good to share, because it awards you a sort of internal organization, built upon frameworks. It becomes easier to make decisions, because you can simply look to your pillars.

In summation

I think the biggest hindrance to forward mobility in this day in age is that we overcomplicate things, and live in a world where we don’t let ourselves believe that things can really be this simple.

There are productivity gurus and masters cruising around the globe, writing books that are essentially saying slightly subjective versions of the same thing.

If there are all of these answers echoing the same song, why do we block it out? Discover the frameworks that resonate with you, despite how elementary or rudimentary it may sound to your over-developed and over-active mind.

Flip the world on it’s head, and accept that self mastery is simple, but it is not easy. So the bravest and most admirable thing you could do, is pursue the simple.

Connect to simple frameworks that resonate with you, and organize your life under these frameworks. Develop a mental picture of yourself and who you want to be, what direction you want to go toward.
